Penryn was recognised as a town in 1216 …….. 800 years ago.

It was in the 13th century that the Ordinalia and other create Cornish writings were created at Glasney College Penryn,  a major centre of learning at the time.

The Kemeneth Festival is a celebration of Penryn’s Culture and Heritage and will include performances of The Ordinalia in the streets , including both actors and the local population with theatre in the round (The Plen and Gwari tradition (Playing Place). There are over 35 bands and performance groups and a big top on Glasney College Field.

There is a heritage market in the town centre and three stages throughout the town alongside fair ground rides, workshops and have-a-go sessions for children and families.

There is a multi-cultural flavour to the performances with Flamenco from Claudia Cauolin, Gospel music from Falmouth Gospel Choir, Indian Dance from Inspirasian Dance Company, Capoiera from Cordao de Ouro and international circus artists from Swamp Circus.

Penryn is an ancient  port and has welcomed visitors from across the world. Penryn’s granite and masons have been transported to many countries. For example, Bombay docks is made from Penryn granite!

 The Kemeneth also celebrates Cornish culture with Cornish dance groups  The Whipple Tree band, Joana’s Lift and Tros an Tres who are setting up their Chough dance floor in the memorial gardens. bring your families to enjoy the ceilidhs and Cornish dancing.

The University has been very supportive  and is helping with stages in the heritage market and in the big top on Glasney field for the evening celebration. 

The event has sponsorship from Rebel Brewery who have produced a celebration ‘pink’ beer which has been infused with Hibiscus flowers!

There will be music and performances, stalls and exotic street food around Penryn from 12am.

Market Street will be closed from 8am except for local residents and closed completely from 10am.

Saracen Crescent will be accessed from Helston Road and will be 2 way traffic so enabling visits to the Penryn Surgery

Busses and taxis will run normally but will  take a different route.
